JOGMEC Seminar on Sustainable Development of Mineral Resources in Botswana’s Mining Sector

The Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources of Republic of Botswana (MMEWR), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan and JOGMEC will hold “JOGMEC Seminar on Sustainable Development of Mineral Resources in Botswana’s Mining Sector” at Avani hotel in Gaborone, on 30 October 2015.

The aim of the seminar is to share experience and challenges in mine pollution prevention issues with the participants. This seminar is expected to provide a basis for cooperation in mining development between Botswana and Japan. We also hope that the seminar will contribute to further sustainable mining development in Botswana.

JOGMEC has been working together with MMEWR on geology projects since 2007, and the partnership has grown over the years. As a way of building capacity, several officials from the Ministry have undergone training in geology and other mining related courses. There are trainees in Southern African countries, who continue to benefit from programmes offered by JOGMEC.

The seminar will be attended by government officials, mining industry experts, researchers from various institutions, JOGMEC trainees from SADC countries, Japanese companies, and governmental organisations from Japan.
